I think it was a few days ago that a rumor started of Nick Swisher being on the Yankees trading block. At the time when I heard that, I laughed. There was no way the Yankees would trade Nick Swisher. No way they would trade their best clubhouse guy. Also, they wouldn't trade him now since Johnny Damon and Hideki Matsui are both free agents and the Yankees need outfielders. Just wanted to end the rumor.
By the way, the free agency has officially opened, but do not expect the Yankees to make any first day moves.

Yankees - Jeter, Teixeira win Silver Slugger award
First they win the World Series. Then they win Gold Gloves. Now they win the Silver Slugger awards. Could an MVP award be next? Congratulations to Derek Jeter and Mark Teixeira again on their latest accomplishment!
Islanders - Islanders 4, Panthers 5 in Shootout
For the 10th time this season, the Islanders found themselves in yet another tie game going into overtime. The result: a 7th OT loss, this time to the lowly Panthers, 5-4. The Islanders are now 7-6-7 with 21 points on the year. On their current 7 game road trip, they are 1-0-2. Despite giving up leads in the 2nd period, they have been playing some decent hockey of late. Rookie John Tavares, who scored twice against the Hurricanes, had a goal and a assist. He now leads all rookies with 8 goals. The Islanders had a 2-0 lead and saw that turn into a 4-2 deficit. They would fight back and score two 3rd period goals to force OT. Nathan Horton for the Panthers got the game winning goal in a shootout, beating Roloson up high. Next up for the Isles: The Boston Bruins in Boston on Monday night.

Islanders - Islanders 4, Hurricanes 3 in OT
For the 9th time in 19 games, the New York Islanders take another contest into OT. Going into the game they were 2-6 in OT. They left 3-6. Kyle Okposo ended the game and gave the Islanders a 4-3 win over the slumping Hurricanes. He intercepted a puck in the offensive zone, headed towards the net, made some moves and took a gorgeous shot that found the back of the net. The Islanders entered Friday the 13th with a record of 6-6-6, but fortunately luck was on their side and they leave Carolina with a 7-6-6 (20 points) record.
Next game: Islandes travel to Florida to take on the Panthers tomorrow at 7pm.

Yankees - Yankees Ticker Tape Parade
Well I planned to go to the Ticker Tape Parade to celebrate the Yankees World Championship. I got up at 6 A.M. to get ready to go but I felt a bit under the weather and couldn't go. I was hoping to take live pictures for the blog but it looks like I will have to wait for the next Yankee parade which shouldn't be too far down the road. Once again, congratulations to the 2009 New York Yankees on becoming World Champions for the 27th time!

Yankees - YANKEES WIN 27TH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!

Congratulations to Joe Girardi and the rest of the entire New York Yankees organization on winning the World Series (the 27th in franchise history). The Yankees win the series in 6 games and it was only fitting for Andy Pettitte to be the Yankees pitcher to clinch the win (18th career post season win which is most all time). After nine long years, Yankee fans can celebrate once again!!! In it's first year of operation, this blog can celebrate a championship for one of the two teams that the blog covers!! I will be going to the Yankees World Series ticker tape parade on Friday. I hope to see you there but not before everyone picks up the new championship gear at modells tomorrow!!!
Yankees win Game 6 7-3
MVP of the World Series - Hideki Matsui
World Series Recap:

P.S. Hey Jimmy Rollins, how's that for 'Phillies in 5'. You should stick to your NL East predictions vs the Mets because at least those are accurate. This championship just put a dent on the many hearts of Mets fans. Here's to them: LETS GO YANKEES!
New York Yankees "Empire State of Mind" remix song:
In New York, Concrete jungle where the Yankees play, there's nothing they can't do, THEY ARE NEW YORK. Their stadium is brand new, their big hits will inspire you...LET'S HEAR IT FOR NEW YORK!! YANKEES!
Yankees - Yankees 5, Phillies 8 GAME 5 Final
Eh, so I was wrong for once. The Yankees did not end the series in 5 as they lost to 8-5 to the Phillies on a disgusting (weather wise) Halloween night. It's ok. They will end it in Game 6. I originally thought 6 but did not think Cliff Lee would beat them twice. I am hoping to be at the ticket parade by the end of the week.

Islanders - Isles win 4th straight
Tonight at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, the Islanders defeated the Edmonton Oilers 3-1 making it their 4th straight victory. They now stand at 5-4-5 with 15 points. Brendan Witt scored twice (including empty netter) and John Tavares also scored for the Isles. Roloson was sharp yet again as he defeats his former team. The Islanders have been playing very well and hopefully they can keep it up.
Yankees - Yankees 7, Phillies 4 Game 4 FINAL
10 wins down, 1 more win to go! The New York Yankees are only 1 win away from winning their 27th World Series Championship. The Yankees led almost all of Game 4 until the 8th inning when Joba Chamberlain gave up a 2 out, game-tying solo home run to make it a 4-4 game. In the 9th, Hideki Matsui and Derek Jeter became the first two outs for Brad Lidge as it looked like he was going to have a 1-2-3 inning. However, Johnny Damon put on a great at bat and was behind in the count and fouled off some tough pitches before sending a pitch to left field for a single. With Teixeira up, Damon stole 2nd and made a heads up play by realizing no one was covering 3rd base because of the shift and also taking 3rd. Mark Teixeira would then get hit by a pitch and that would bring up A-rod. Alex Rodriguez would get another clutch hit (biggest hit of his entire career) as he launched a go ahead (and eventually the game winning hit) double to left field which brought in Damon to give the Yankees a 5-4 lead. Next batter was Jorge Posada, who would give the Yankees 2 insurance runs by getting a base hit to left center field. Mariano Rivera would come in and record a quick 3 outs. The Yankees win 7-4.
Sabathia was strong (6.2 innings pitched, 3 runs allowed, 7 hits, 3 walks and 6 strikeouts) but he did not pick up the win. Joba Chamberlain was credited with the win.
For the Phillies, Joe Blanton pitched a decent game (6 innings pitched, 4 runs allowed, 5 hits, 2 walks and 7 strikeouts) and received a no decision. Brad Lidge (1 inning pitched, 3 runs allowed on 3 hits, 1 strikeout) was charged with the loss.
Notes: A-rod is having a very nice post season. He is sporting a .348 AVG, with 6 home runs, 15 RBIs and 12 runs scored.
Series Recap:
Game 1: Phillies 6, Yankees 1 (Phillies lead series 1-0)
Game 2: Phillies 1, Yankees 3 (Series tied 1-1)
Game 3: Yankees 8, Phillies 5 (Yanks lead series 2-1)
Game 4: Yankees 7, Phillies 4 (Yanks lead series 3-1)
Game 5: A.J. Burnett vs Cliff Lee

The Islanders are finally on a roll with 3 straight victories against some good teams. The Islanders started this streak by beating their rival, the New York Rangers, 3-1 on Wednesday night at the Coliseum. On Friday, they beat Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals in OT 4-3. Yesterday, The Islanders and Martin Biron shutout the Sabres 5-0 to give Biron his 200th career victory. The Islanders now stand at 4-4-5. They are also 3-0-2 in their last 5 games. Now let's keep it up!
Sick
No I haven't been lazy but the reason why I haven't updated the blog is because i've been very sick. I'm still not over it but I am somewhat better and I think it's time to jot some things down.
