Yankees - Yankees snap losing streak against sox, win 13-6


For the first time this season, the Yankees have defeated the Red Sox and it was by the large margin of 13-6. It's a big win for the Yankees, who improve to 66-42, as the Red Sox fall 3.5 games behind for first place. The Yankees hit four homeruns, two of them were 3-run homeruns in the bottom of the 4th inning by Melky Cabrera and Jorge Posada en route to 8-run inning. The other two homeruns were by Johnny Damon and Mark Teixeira (both solo blasts). Both starters struggled today. For the Red Sox, Smoltz only lasted 3.1 innings for the loss and allowed 9 hits, 8 earned runs, and 4 walks. For the Yankees, Chamberlain barely pitched 5 innings for the win and allowed 6 hits, 4 earned runs, and a season high 7 walks. He also struck out 5. Other notes : Damon, Teixeira and Posada all had 3-hit games.
