Yankees - Kazmir, Rays beat Yankees 6-2

It was an ugly game for the Yankees who drop to 61-39 on the year with the loss. A couple of errors and some great pitching by Scott Kazmir help the Rays cruise to a 6-2 victory. The scoring began in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Ben Zobrist, singled and ended up being on 2nd base due to Jeter's throwing error. Two walks later, the bases are loaded, and Navarro hits a sac fly to deep center to make it 1-0 Rays. Next inning, the Rays would score 2 more runs on a Carl Crawford RBI triple and an A-rod throwing error. The Yankees would finally get on the board in the 4th inning by Matsui's rbi single making it 3-1 Rays. Evan Longoria would make it 4-1 Rays with a homerun to left in the bottom of the 5th. In the bottom of the 6th, the Rays would add on 2 more runs with some 2 out rbi base hits to make it 6-1 (an RBI single by Jason Bartlett, followed by a B.J. Upton RBI double). This would knock out Yankee ace CC Sabathia after just 5.2 innings pitched. He allowed 5 earned runs, 9 hits, walked 2 and had 6 strikeouts. Rookie reliever Mark Melancon, relieved Sabathia after not pitching since july 10th. He would only allow 1 hit in 2.1 innings pitched, while striking out 2. Hideki Matsui would drive in the Yankees 2nd run of the game in the 9th inning with a RBI double to left to make it 6-2 Rays. The Rays hang on and win 6-2, improving to 55-46 and are now 6.5 games back of the first place Yankees. The Yankees however, remain 2.5 games up on the 2nd place Red Sox, thanks to an Oakland rally to beat the Red Sox 9-8.

Winning Pitcher - Scott Kazmir (5-6)
Losing Pitcher - CC Sabathia (10-7)
